Sex: gelding Birth date: April 17, 2004 Price: $1,800 Color: sorrel Markings: two hind stockings, thin strip Sire: AQHA registration: 4567264 HYPP: N/N Photo at right: July 2006, 27 months Trained by Amanda Mayers Photo below: February 2006, 22 months Started by Clara Vaughn, age 14 As of September 2006 Height: 15' 0" As of July 06, Quest had about a month of professional training, and is progressing well. He has a nice jog trot, trotting over poles and in tight circles, and is carrying his head like a show horse at the jog. He'll take both leads at the lope, and is quite good at whoa and back up. He's getting light on the snaffle bit, and is beginning to move off the rider's leg to steer. You can see this on a video we took of him, taken on his ninth ride with the trainer (following about a dozen short rides here at the farm, done by our daughter, who started him.) Amanda, the trainer, is pleased with his quiet attitude and athleticism. Video-CD is available by mail on request. On the ground, Quest is really easy. He's not bothered by clippers, he'll load and back out of a trailer, and likes being rinsed with the hose. The farrier was so impressed when he got his first set of shoes. "That's the nicest two-year-old I've ever shod," he said, pointing out that Quest never tried to pull even one foot away from him, and certainly did not get nervous or upset. We took Quest to an open show and he handled the situation very well. Amanda rode him all over the grounds and in the ring. He stayed focused on her, remembered everything she had taught him at home, and didn't get excited or upset. He definitely has the quiet disposition that makes going to shows a pleasure. In short, Quest is showing many of the same characteristics his sister Topnotch Cadence (see home page) did at that same age. With similar genetics, similar movement, and definitely a similar attitude and trainability, Quest should do well in the show pen, and will probably have the right disposition for a youth rider.
